Cubs Take Down Pioneers, 4-3
|
The New Jersey Pioneers got a superb performance from pitcher Nelson Estrella, but the Chicago Cubs still won the game, 4-3. Estrella threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. Chicago reliever Junior Marino picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Alex Quinones was tagged with the loss. Chicago, at 30-35, occupies second place in the National League Central Division.
Nico Hoerner was the walk-off hero for Chicago. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cubs second baseman hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.
"It's great to get the crowd pumped up," Hoerner said.
