Pittsburgh Defeated By Pioneers, 4-0
|
The New Jersey Pioneers took Pittsburgh pitcher Octavio Becerra's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Cognizant Grounds at the Meadowlands. The final score had New Jersey getting past the Pirates, 4-0. Becerra went 6 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 11. Steve Wenzel earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. His record is now 1-0. New Jersey goes to 7-6.
Had Nick Senzel not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Senzel hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Pioneers.
"What's not to like about a win?" said Senzel.
