Nationals Drop Athletics, 6-3
|
The Washington Nationals faced a tough opponent in Oakland pitcher Ramon Palacios, but still scratched out a win at Oakland Coliseum by a final score of 6-3 in 10 innings. Palacios went 6.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. The win went to Josh Bonk in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Mike Ginart took the loss. Washington has a record of 11-9.
The result might have been different, had it not been for former first round draft pick Kevin Wengel. Wengel had a 2-run double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Nationals ahead, 5-3. For the game, Wengel had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Wengel. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
