Phillies Drop Reds, 4-1, with Late Score
|
The Cincinnati Reds got a sterling performance from pitcher Jim Groome, but the Philadelphia Phillies still prevailed, 4-1. Groome threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The loss drops Cincinnati to 13-11.
Philadelphia used a clutch hit from Dominic Smith to get the win. The first baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Phillies ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Smith attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
