On a Roll: Bruner Hits for Cycle
Tuesday, September 17th , 2030
In an outing that will go down in the annals of baseball history, Philadelphia first baseman Tommy Bruner hit for the cycle today as the Phillies marched to victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, 12-5.
Bruner collected 4 hits in 5 at-bats, including 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run. He added 5 RBI and 2 runs scored to help Philadelphia take the Citizens Bank Park contest.
"It was the last thing on my mind, really," Bruner said. "I'm out there trying to get a blooper or a walk or whatever might help the team. Even if I had wanted to, hitting for the cycle is probably as much about luck as about skill anyway."
Tommy Bruner hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Ignacio Feliz in the 7th and hit a two-run triple in the 8th.
This season Bruner is hitting .272 with 86 hits, 16 home runs, 57 RBIs, scored 42 runs and played in 108 games.
