Miami Bats Go Silent in 3-0 Loss
|
Miami got a terrific performance from pitcher Ray Hopf, but it wasn't enough to beat the Carolina Warhounds. Carolina won the Jose Fernandez Park contest, 3-0. Hopf came in in relief and pitched to 26 batters for the losing team. Jesús Cardenas was the winner. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed no runs on 9 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts. The Marlins, at 83-71, have lost 4 straight games.
Santiago Barbosa, the slugging shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Barbosa contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Carolina up, 2-0.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Carolina manager Jared Margolies.
