D.J. Winger impressed in the 9-6 New York win over Washington. Winger, who led the NL in home runs with 47 last year, was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Reliever Luis de la Cruz picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Hugo Saucedo took the loss. Vinny Yanez recorded the save for New York, his 1st of the season.

In the top of the sixth inning, Christos Lipinski went deep for the Mets. With New York trailing 6-4, he drilled a 2-run home run.

"If the personal accolades come, so be it," said Lipinski. "I just want to win ballgames."
