Drysdale Spectacular in 3-0 Win
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates had no answer today for Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Don Drysdale. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 3-0. Pittsburgh managed only 3 hits off Drysdale, who had 11 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Drysdale got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Dodgers fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
On the season Drysdale has 10 wins and 6 losses and a 2.30 ERA.
