Yankees Edge Kansas City in Pitching Duel
|
In a well-pitched game between the New York Yankees and the Kansas City Athletics, pitcher Al Downing was superb. The New York left-hander helped his team win, 1-0. Kansas City drops to 10-8.
New York took a 1-0 lead on Clete Boyer's 1st home run of the season. The solo home run came off Kansas City pitcher Ed Connolly in the bottom of the seventh.
"It was just a matter of executing," said New York manager Bill Wiebers.
