The Chicago Cubs stopped the Cincinnati Reds, 6-3, behind an impressive performance from Chris Richard. The 29-year old right fielder made life miserable for Cincinnati pitching. He hit 3 home runs. He scored 4 times and drove in 3. Jesús García, the winner, improved to 4-8. He held the Reds to 1 run on 6 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 2. Leo Kiely finished to wrap up his 5th save.

Chicago relied on the hitting of Matt Carpenter to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Cubs on top, 3-1. For the game, Carpenter had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"Winning never gets dull," said Carpenter.

The Cubs improve their record to 63-54 with the win over Cincinnati.
