Averill Dominant in Senators Victory
The Washington Senators got a magnificent performance from pitcher Charlie Averill, who stifled the New York offense en route to a 3-0 Senators win at D.C. Stadium. Butch Hughes earned his 6th save in 9 tries. The Yankees, now 31-45, have lost 5 in a row.

The Yankees had trouble solving Averill, who surrendered no runs on 1 hit over 7 innings.

"Charlie is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Washington manager Robert Lukac.
