Reds Best Dodgers in Pitching Duel
|
Cincinnati left-hander Jim Kaat pitched his team to victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. The final score was 2-1. Kaat, now 7-7, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. The Reds saw their win-loss record go to 40-42. At the same time, the Dodgers fell to 37-44.
Cincinnati relied on the hitting of Frank Robinson to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Reds on top, 2-0. For the game, Robinson had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
In comments to the Cincinnati Daily News, Kaat admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
