Losing Streak Continues for Mets with 2-1 Loss to Astros
Houston Astros starter Tom Seaver turned in an exceptional performance against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium, resulting in a Houston win, 2-1. Lanny Monette converted his 16th save in 25 tries. The 6th-place Astros lifted their record to 74-80.

Houston used a well-timed hit by Julio Gotay to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Astros ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"Sometimes, you can be too aggressive," said New York manager Nolan Ryan. "You need to let the game come to you."
