They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but in the case of Bob Friend of the Baltimore Orioles, you don't have to - his old tricks worked just fine in 1965.

The 34-year-old veteran turned in a sparkling performance and has won the AL Reliever of the Year Award.

He captured the award with 27 saves in 68 relief appearances, 70 strikeouts and 23 walks in 112 innings. He put up a record of 16-6 to go with his 2.41 ERA.

He received 14 first place votes out of a possible 20. David Nunnenkamp of the Kansas City Athletics finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Dick Hall of the Cleveland Guardians finished third.
