POLL 2036 - Minor League Roster Maximums

Post by DavidJ » Thu Jul 01, 2021 6:28 pm

We have some rather large rosters and rather old players in the ABL minor leagues.

I would welcome the argument for a 40-year old at Rookie level?

I would like to propose the following maximums for the minor league levels and ask that you respond to this poll (and feel free to comment below):

Rookie Level - Roster of 50 - Max 3 pro years
All A levels - Roster of 35 - Max 8 pro years
AA & AAA levels - Roster of 35

As the draft can have a range of ages, and most players start at Rookie, the larger roster makes sense (and conforms to pretty much what is happening now, except for a few teams). And, in my opinion, after 3 pro years a player should be moving to A somewhere.
The main reason is that this will keep the 26 to 40 year olds out of the lowest level.

Right now a roster of 35 would appear to work just fine and the 8 pro years means you have players potentially returning to your organization for two after being eligible for free agency at that level. Again, if they haven't shown anything worth promoting to AA or AAA by then, they are likely taking up space.

At the two higher minor league levels you are welcome to have some older backup talent, but just 35 at each level, which only two teams currently exceed anyway.

This will keep the players advancing and, more importantly, playing at the appropriate level.
And if you detest managing any of you minor leagues, you can always assign some of that work to the AI in the game.

Pretty convincing poll.
I will implement this in the off-season AND should the A-Leagues pro years not do as expected, we can adjust.
Thanks for the votes!
