Walk-Off Win Makes New York 20-26
|
The New York Yankees faced a tough opponent in Kansas City pitcher Sincere Edwards, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Yankee Stadium by a final score of 4-3. Edwards went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. Chris Mahowald notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record now sits at 2-1. The Yankees improve their record to 20-26 with the win over Kansas City.
The Yankees procured the win, in large part because of designated hitter Chris Vernon. In the bottom of the 14th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Kansas City manager Cary Rosen. "But we decided not to take it."
