New York beat Los Angeles on the strength of starting pitcher Joe Casey's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 3-2. Valter Lariz earned the save for New York, his 23rd of the year. The Mets are now 80-63, while the Dodgers fall to 79-63.
The Mets got a big at-bat from shortstop Cletus Mallandaine. For the game, Mallandaine was 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 22nd double of the season gave New York a 2-1 lead.
"We were in it," said Los Angeles manager Vinnie Wicker. "We just didn't score enough runs."
