Vernon Hits Two Dingers, Yankees Win, 9-5
|
The New York Yankees beat the San Francisco Giants by a score of 9-5. New York left fielder Chris Vernon deserved the lion's share of the credit. Vernon hit 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for the Yankees. The win belongs to Micah Kapple in relief. His record improves to 2-5. Luis Aguirre took the loss for San Francisco. New York now owns a record of 72-77.
New York took a 7-5 lead on Ismael Roybal's 24th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Roybal hit in the bottom of the eighth, left San Francisco pitcher Luis Aguirre visibly frustrated.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Roybal told the New York Today.
