Reds Trip Mariners, 6-5, in Extra Innings
|
The Cincinnati Reds beat the Seattle Mariners, 6-5, in 11 innings. Cincinnati right fielder Bob Rains, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Juan Garza came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 2-1. The win brings the Reds to 12-7, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
Cincinnati used the timely hitting of Juan Guerra to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Reds on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Our team showed some spunk," said Rains.
