Spiders Prevail, 5-3, Over Boston
|
The Cleveland Spiders relied on the hitting of second baseman Sergio Mireles to stop the Boston Red Sox, 5-3. For the game, Mireles was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Juan Negrete, the winner, goes to 1-0. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 1 strikeout over 6.1 innings. Picking up the save was Chris Cramer, his 2nd.
Mireles contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Cleveland in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 1-0, Mireles took a changeup from Jamari Gholston and stroked the home run to left-center. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Spiders to leap in front, 3-1.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Mireles, "and then get after it again."
The Spiders, now 7-17, have not found much traction so far in 2048.
