Van Dorn Is Pitcher of Perfection
Wednesday, August 7th , 2047
So rare that it is more a figment of the imagination than an actual possibility for a professional ballplayer, the near-mythical perfect game became reality for Jeremy Van Dorn today.
The San Diego Padres right-hander dominated the New York Mets at Petco Park, securing the 6-0 Padres victory and a place for himself in the history books.
"As a kid I imagined pitching a perfect game, but it was only a fairy tale -- I didn't really ever expect to pitch one," Van Dorn said later, sitting in the clubhouse with a crowd of reporters. "I don't want to demean it, but I've lost games where I had better stuff than I had today. It all just fell into place in this one."
The 29-year-old Van Dorn retired all 27 Mets batters in a row. He surrendered no hits, walked none, struck out 6 and permitted no one to get on base.
This season Van Dorn has registered 10 wins and 5 losses in 24 starts with a 2.19 ERA.
