Red Sox Top Chicago, 3-2
|
The Boston Red Sox had to overcome a fine effort from Chicago pitcher Brailyn Marquez to grab a narrow 3-2 win at Wrigley Field. Marquez went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. The win was credited to Chris Murphy in relief. His record improves to 3-5. Michael McAvene took the loss. The Cubs, now 35-43, have lost 4 straight.
Boston used the timely hitting of Tyler Esplin to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We take it day by day here," said Esplin, "and today was a good one for us."
