Cardinals Best Reds in Pitching Duel
|
In a tight affair between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds, pitcher Ryan Helsley was in the zone. The St. Louis right-hander helped his team win the game, 2-0. Helsley, now 12-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Kodi Whitley earned his 27th save in 30 chances.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Seth Elledge didn't flinch. With a runner on 1st and Cincinnati trailing 1-0, Elledge retired Ibandel Isabel to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Elledge, with a wink.
With the win, St. Louis pushed its record to 64-55.
