Athletics Fall Short, 1-0, at Boston
|
The Boston Red Sox took Oakland pitcher Daulton Jefferies's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Fenway Park. The final score had Boston getting past the Athletics, 1-0. Jefferies went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 10. Tanner Houck converted his 22nd save in 26 tries. The loss makes Oakland 66-56.
The Red Sox got a big hit from first baseman Triston Casas. In the bottom of the sixth, Casas pounded a run-scoring double to right. His 30th double of the season put the Red Sox ahead, 1-0.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Boston manager Baseball America. "Our pregame was pretty good."
