The Boston Red Sox dealt the New York Yankees a 6-4 loss at Yankee Stadium. Jeter Downs was the star on offense. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Boston reliever Tanner Houck was the winner. His record is now 1-1. Michael King took the loss. Getting the save was Andrew Politi, his 1st.
Downs had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a 1-1 sinker from Michael King, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Red Sox a 6-4 lead. It was the 11th home run of the year for Downs.
In postgame comments, Downs said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
