Rockies C Nunez Gets the Cycle
|
Dom Nunez was jubilant as the Colorado Rockies left the field with a 10-4 win over the San Francisco Giants today. He had every right to be.
The 25-year-old catcher hit for the cycle at Colorado Field, had a 4-for-5 game and chalked up 6 runs batted in and 2 runs to boot.
"It's too bad I can't do that every day," Nunez said with a smile to reporters after the game. "It would do wonders for my batting average."
Colorado manager Baseball America said he was "proud" of his catcher's feat, but was not expecting it to happen.
"Cycles are tough because triples are tough," he said. "As soon as the ball left the bat on that triple, guys were jumping off the bench for him. Honestly, I wasn't sure he was going to be able to leg it out."
Dom Nunez struck out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Sean Hjelle in the 5th, hit a three-run triple in the 6th and doubled in the 8th.
Thus far this year Nunez is batting .250 with 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and 29 runs scored.
