Fort Wayne Takes 1-0 Series Lead with Walk-off Win
|
The Fort Wayne TinCaps started the Round 1 in dramatic fashion today, stealing Game 1 from the Lansing Lugnuts in a walk-off. Fort Wayne won 3-2 behind a good day from starter Pat Haynes. The right-hander threw 6.0 innings allowing 2 runs in the win, which gave the TinCaps a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-5 series.
Kevin Pacheco was the walk-off hero for Fort Wayne. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the TinCaps shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"It felt like they almost stopped play a couple times, but it just held off," Haynes said of the rain that threatened throughout much of the game. "Not great conditions for playoff baseball."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Parkview Field in Ft. Wayne.
