4-1 Loss Extends Cincinnati Skid
|
Gerolamo Manacorda never let the Reds get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his cutter, to pitch the Cardinals to a win, 4-1. Manacorda got the win, improving to 17-9. He allowed 3 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. Manacorda allowed 1 run. Jorge Balderas saved it for St. Louis.
The Reds had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Cardinals going into the bottom of the third inning. That changed quickly when the fan favorite Kennan Renouf came to the plate. Renouf hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch fastball from Cincinnati hurler Dan McKee. It was Renouf's 20th double of the year.
"We gave it the old college try," said Cincinnati manager AJ Ramos. "But the old college try wasn't good enough."
The Cardinals, at 94-66, have a comfortable 14½-game lead in their division.
