Visalia Rawhide pitcher Jorge Gamboa whisked his team past the San Jose Giants, 5-2. Visalia reliever Ben Cargile got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Doug Bruton was tagged with the loss. Norm Hanshaw recorded the save for Visalia, his 3rd of the season.

The outcome might have been different for Visalia, had it not been for Juan Islas, the 23-year old first baseman . Islas stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put Visalia up, 5-2. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.

Gamboa pitched well, despite being a bit under the weather. "To be honest, I was sick before the game," he said. "Just a stomach bug."

With the win, Visalia climbs to 3-1.
