Round 1 Goes the Distance, South Bend Prevails
The fans in South Bend are delirious, while there is little joy to be found in Lansing.

The South Bend Cubs finished off the Lansing Lugnuts 7-5 in the deciding game of the Round 1 played at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium.

They took the series 3-2 and will now head to the Round 2.

For his standout play, South Bend left fielder Justin Sorenson was voted the series' Most Valuable Player.

He batted .400, drove in 3 runs and scored 6 to lead his club to victory.

"We could never really figure out how to pitch to Sorenson and that doomed us," said Lugnuts manager . "Hats off to South Bend, though. That was a great series."

The South Bend Cubs will play against the Peoria Chiefs in the next round. Peoria won their series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels 3 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
