Cubs Hammered by Fernandez, Drop Game 6 to Rockies
|
The Colorado Rockies and the Chicago Cubs will take the League Championship Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the Rockies beat the Cubs 4-3 at Wrigley Field to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Colorado left fielder Alex Fernandez went 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 triples. He scored 2 times and drove in 2.
Had Kikuichi Hirai not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Hirai hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Rockies.
"We lost," Chicago manager David Aardsma said later. "We'll deal with it. The series isn't over."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
