Athletics Fall Short, 7-6, at Tampa Bay
|
The Oakland Athletics got a sterling performance from catcher Chad Bopp, but the Tampa Bay Rays still prevailed, 7-6. Bopp was 3-4 with a home run and 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Aaron Baranski, the winner, goes to 1-0. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts over 6.1 innings. Frank Garner earned the save for Tampa Bay, his 1st of the year.
In the bottom of the sixth, Tampa Bay shortstop Efrain Arias had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 3rd and one out, Arias stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 7-2, Tampa Bay. For the game, he went 1 for 2 with a hit by pitch.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Rays manager Josh Beer. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
The Rays, now 4-1, have stormed out of the gates.
