Baltimore's Ward Reaches 2000 Hits Friday, September 15th , 2051 Amari Ward's bat made good contact with the ball as he has many times in his career, but this time it added his name to an elite list of players with 2000 hits. "This is a tremendous honor. You grow up dreaming of becoming a Major League Baseball player, but never did I ever think I would get to this point," an emotional Ward said after the game. The Baltimore shortstop went to the plate 4 times and racked up 1 hit to gain the honor. But the Orioles couldn't pull off a win -- they fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-4. "It certainly would have been nice to have won, but tomorrow is another day. I'm going to enjoy this moment with my friends and family," Ward said. A check of his lifetime stats shows Ward has played in 2480 games with a .221 batting average. Among his 2000 hits are 462 home runs. He has also scored 1258 runs and driven in 1276 runs.
