Boston Beaten, 9-6, by New York
|
The New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox, 9-6, at Yankee Stadium. Rogelio Silva starred for New York. He was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Dave Kennedy, 2-11, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 1.1 innings. Derek Martin sewed up the save, his 1st.
Joe Sauer had a big 3-run home run for the Yankees in the bottom of the second inning. With New York trailing 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Jon Friesen and punished it. The result was his 7th home run of the season, which put the Yankees on top, 3-2.
"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Silva.
The last-place Yankees improved to 36-47.
