Siperco Torches Nationals for 5 Hits
In a career performance, Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Vasile Siperco sparkled with the bat at PNC Park.

Powering his way to a 5-for-6 day at the plate, Siperco led the Pirates to a nice 21-6 win over the Washington Nationals. Siperco was in high spirits in the clubhouse after the game, joking with reporters that the big game had left him "winded."

"Oh sure, 5 hits sounds great but think about how much more baserunning you have to do," he said with a smile. "Next time, I'm just going to take 5 walks."

Vasile Siperco struck out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Bobby Wilson in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Mike Robertson in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off Davon Teamer in the 8th.

For the season, Siperco is batting .250 with 82 hits and 34 home runs. He has scored 60 times and batted in 75.
