Gold Get Better of Pearls, 2-1
|
The Johannesburg Gold scooped up a win at Golden Palace, dumping the Tokyo Pearls, 2-1. Matt McCartney, who is tied for 8th in the GBC in complete games with 1, was essential to his team's success. McCartney yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 7. His record improves to 3-1. Leonard Thompson earned the save for Johannesburg, his 2nd.
Johannesburg went up, 2-1, on Dave Butler's 7th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Butler hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Tokyo pitcher Markùri Siliqi feeling irked.
"Tough loss," said Tokyo manager Hunter Eisenhower. "This one will sting for a while."
The Gold improved to 63-83.
