Pharaohs Come Up Short at Tokyo, 7-6
|
Starting pitcher Tommy Boele pitched well enough to help the Tokyo Pearls beat the Cairo Pharaohs, 7-6. Boele, the winner, moves to 7-9. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 4 walks. Fassil Maundu notched his 22nd save in 23 chances.
Najib bin Haroun, who is tied for 5th in the GBC in RBI with 96, chipped in a solo home run for Tokyo in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"It was a solid team effort," said bin Haroun after the game.
The third-place Pearls now have a record of 81-77.
