2057 BL Positional Rankings – Third Base

  1. Zachary Schwer (Vancouver)

In a bit of a surprise move the reigning Premier League MVP was dealt all the way down to the Bronze League. Las Vegas cites contract disputes as the main reason for the deal. While Vancouver fans are delighted, an audible groan can be heard from the other 9 franchises in Bronze. Last season Schwer slashed .297/.352/.584 with an OPS+ of 154. He lead the Premier League in home runs, RBIs, SLG%, OPS, and WAR. The only question mark surrounding Schwer is how much Vancouver is willing to pay him.

  1. Brett Sant (Houston)

Until just a few hours ago Sant was far and away the best 3B in the Bronze League. In his first full season on the Moondogs he posted .334/.369/.537 to go along with 19 home runs and 23 doubles in only 93 games. (Sant was loaned to Charlotte at the deadline) The 26 year-old New Yorker looks to build on his successful 2056, where he won the Silver Slugger.

  1. Brian Simmons (Tampa Bay)

Simmons looks to be an anchor at the hot-corner for the Palms, accumulating 4.6 in his first two full seasons with the team. Simmons is an absolute double machine, racking up 33 in each of his last two seasons. At his current pace he could break the Bronze League top-10 in the next couple seasons. A slight rebound in his defensive game and Simmons will continue to be one of the more balanced 3B in the Bronze League

  1. Juan Placencia (Philadelphia)

Another member of that 2050 Inaugural draft class is rookie-to-be Juan Placencia. Last season in the Bronze League Reserves he mustered an impressive line of .266/.333/.489. His real value will come with the glove, despite only playing 12 games at 3B last season he managed a ZR of 1.1 and zero errors. After playing nearly 700 minor league games, Placencia is more than ready to prove his stuff on the big stage.

  1. Ryan Leblanc (Minnesota)

At #5 we have another rookie-to-be. Leblanc was a second round selection in the 2050 Rookie Draft. Similar to his counterpart, Placencia, Leblanc projects to have a modest bat with his main value being with the glove. Again, similar to Placencia, Leblanc will be looking forward to his time in the big league after playing 661 games in the minor leagues.

  1. Daniel Ferrara (Boston)

The 34 year old from Italy has been a bit of a journeyman in the CBA. He played the IPT and 2050 season with Phoenix, the 2051-2053 with Toronto, 2054-2056 with Charlotte, and he is now the most qualified 3B in Boston’s organization. Over the years Ferrara has won the Bronze League once and the Premier League twice. Even though his productivity is slowly declining, he can still provide moderate value for a Boston franchise hoping to compete.

  1. Paul Brown (Charlotte)

“I don’t know who is actually going to be starting at 3B this season.”-Charlotte GM Duncan. Therefore; i’m not wasting my time.

  1. Al Santos (Atlanta)

Another member of the Swarm who struggled mightily following promotion to the Silver League. If Santos can return to 2055 form, he should see himself an adequate starter at the hot-corner. However, if his struggles continue Atlanta might be looking for a replacement sooner than anticipated. Fun fact about Santos, he had the same amount of doubles, walks, and triples in 2056 as he did in 2055.

  1. Nick Hurst (Miami)

The 29 year-old lefty is going into season #6 with the Warriors. Hurst has the chance to surpass 400 games, 200 runs, and 400 hits with the Miami franchise. With his best days more than likely behind him, Miami will be looking to get everything left out of Hurst in their push for promotion.

  1. Ramon Torres (Seattle)

The back-to-back Gold Glove winner is bound to be the front-runner once again. If Torres could drop his strikeout numbers and raise his OPS+ to the 75-80 range, he would be a value at the position. However, elite defense can only carry a struggling bat so far.
