2060 Offseason Review: Premier League

Another offseason in the CBA has flown by with teams jockeying to bolster their teams for the 2060 season. There are still a few big names out there on the market, but the offseason is beginning to wind down, with the World Cup of Baseball set to kick off this season shortly. With the bulk of the movement in the rearview mirror, let’s take a look at each team’s offseason.

Cincinnati Kings (WAR added: 0.0, War lost: 0.1)

The Kings have been quiet this offseason as they look to stave off relegation and stay in the Premier League another season. Cincinnati may be the favorites for auto relegation, pending any moves mid-season. We will have to wait and see what happens with this club.

Cleveland Bobcats (WAR added: 6.6, WAR lost: 7.8)

Cleveland is another team who will be looking to strengthen their foothold in the CBA’s top league. Starting pitcher Ryan Ray returns from a loan stint and Ben Ward is back home as the Bobcats are getting some of the band back together. Veterans Asjita Pandit and Joel Mackey were signed as free agents and should add quality to the squad. Brian Bernstein is the big piece who left, going to PL newcomers Minnesota in a trade. Cleveland’s season could hinge on how they start the year, and whether they become buyers or sellers mid-year.

Detroit Motors (WAR added: 10.2, WAR lost: 0.4)

The Motors were a perennial powerhouse in the early years of the CBA but have fallen on hard times of late. They have managed to stay in the Premier League and will look to climb back up the standings with the signings of Donny Buijs and Ramon Sardon and the return of ace pitcher Jesus Guevara from a loan in Toronto. I do not expect Detroit to stay quiet as the season progresses either, especially if they get off to a good start and are in line for a playoff appearance.

Galveston Gremlins (WAR added: 6.7, WAR lost: 1.1)

The three-time reigning PL champions underwent a change at the top with a new general manager stepping in. While the rest of the league is gearing up to take the Gremlins down (a feat the Bronze League hasn’t had trouble with), Galveston has not let their change in management slow them down this offseason. Catcher Tim McDormand joins the Gremlins from Las Vegas and infielder Ritter Meyers and catcher Miggy Ocampo highlight a solid free agent haul. Pitcher Sam Mayer came over in a trade with DC and Galveston will look for him to blossom into a key piece of the rotation to keep the Gremlins at the top of the CBA universe.

Houston Moondogs (WAR added: 8.8, WAR lost: 3.3)

Houston rode a hot second-half of the season to a Silver League title and a Tournament of Champions win. Now in the Premier League, the Moondogs will be a force and have added to their arsenal with the signing of Barry Pfeffer to a 1 year/$50 million contract and trading for former Chicago Gale ace Blaine Zajac to replace Ryan Ray who returned to Cleveland. Houston has young talent waiting in the wings as well and coupled with their offseason moves, many fancy them to compete for the PL title in 2060.

Indianapolis Hawks (WAR added: 7.0, WAR lost: 3.1)

The Hawks held on to their Premier League status on the last day of last season and clearly identified a weakness this offseason, pitching. With Chris Sexton  and Eric Creek leaving in free agency and Al McLaughlin’s loan ending, Indianapolis has signed a number of pitchers this winter, notably Tyler Thomas, Luis Martinez, Harrison Stall, and Cees van den Berg. With the new arms in the fold, the Hawks will look to ascend to a playoff spot in 2060.

Las Vegas Lightning (WAR added: 0.8, WAR lost: 4.4)

Vegas lost the Tournament of Champions final last season and comes in to 2060 relatively unchanged, with 1 big loss. Catcher Tim McDormand joined fellow PL side Galveston and with Vegas’ only signing this winter being veteran first baseman Powell Iddiols, the Lightning will look from within to keep their streak of playoff appearances alive.

Miami Warriors (WAR added: 0.0, WAR lost: 5.3)

Pitching has been the Warriors’ Achilles heel for some time now and it looks like they will come in to 2060 looking to outhit everyone again. The lineup should be back healthy this season but with pitcher Chris Rupp returning to New York after a loan spell and the Warriors not adding any players this offseason, Miami could struggle to hold on to the playoff spot they earned last season.

Minnesota Freeze (WAR added: 16.2, WAR lost: 1.2)

When GM Quinn gets a team in to the Premier League he has shown he is going to do all he can to stay there a while. Previously with the Baltimore Blue Crabs and now with the Freeze, Quinn has gone all in on his offseason leading in to his first PL campaign. Minnesota landed the big fish of this free agency class in outfielder Humberto Rubio but didn’t stop there. The Freeze also signed pitchers Claudio Lensen and Chris Sexton as well as outfielder Omar Naranjo. Closer Brian Bernstein was acquired in a trade and will look to nail down games in Minnesota this season. Minnesota is going all out to freeze in their Premier League spot for years to come.

Toronto Mythics (WAR added: 4.4, WAR lost: 23.7)

The Mythics lost a ton of talent this offseason. Ace pitchers Jesus Guevara and Dave Mesa returned to their parent teams after their loans expired and veteran bats Barry Pfeffer, Donny Buijs, and Kevin Jameson left via free agency. That being said, I wouldn’t shed a tear for Toronto so quickly. This team knows how to re-tool and with a young core on the way, the Mythics will again be in contention for a playoff berth.
