Injury Bug Sweeps First Week of ST

The first week of Spring Training is in the books for the Championship Baseball Association, but the real news coming from these first seven days are some of the injuries that have been reported, including a couple of potentially season-ending ailments.

Pitchers from both sides of Monday’s Dallas vs Arizona matchup left with potential season-ending injuries. Front-runners Dallas Devils were hit with perhaps the most significant injury as Josh Doherty, a potential starter for the team, went down with a torn rotator cuff in a game on Monday. He’s expected to miss significant time, with estimates ranging from 8 to 12 months. It’s a blow to the Devils for sure, although their roster should have enough depth to account for Doherty’s absence.

In that same game, Arizona’s Ty Misner left the game after rupturing a tendon in his finger after a pitch. He’s expected to miss 5 months with that injury. “I’ll get through it,” Misner said. “The key now is to stay positive.”

A gruesome injury occurred on Sunday, when Los Angeles Chili’s outfielder Juan Anticona made a diving play near the wall in right field foul ground. As he hit the ground, Anticona slid into the wall, breaking his hand in the process. Chilis medical staff believe he’ll miss the inaugural season, and will likely be out for five months when its all said and done.

Hopefully these injuries are only a sign of pre-season rust, and not the new normal heading forward. CBA Today will keep you updated with injury updates throughout the season.
