Berserkers Hitless Against Newton
|
Edwin Newton relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Providence College hitless in a win, 5-0, at Aurora College Grounds.
"Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter," he said later. "We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up nine runs but a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. I kept the Berserkers off balance and guessing the whole game."
The 18-year-old starter rung up 7 strikeouts and 2 walks in whipping the Berserkers.
"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," Providence College skipper Auggie Walsh said.
This season, Newton has a 1-2 record with a 6.23 ERA in 8 starts.
