Wildcard Series Goes the Distance, Sacramento HS Prevails
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Steelers Ballpark as the Wildcard Series stretched to the final game.

It was the Sacramento HS Steelers feeling the thrill of victory, with a 12-6 win over the Oakland HS Seahawks, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Division Series.

"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Oakland HS manager Caleb Dirks. "Congratulations to Sacramento HS, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."

Instrumental in the 3-2 series win was third baseman Freddy Álvarez, who was named MVP. He hit .562 with a .588 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 4 runs.

"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.

The Sacramento HS Steelers will play against the Garden Grove HS Devils in the next round. Garden Grove HS won their series against the Rockford HS Paladins 3 games to 1. The Division Series schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Series finishes.
