Members of the Staten Island Yankees couldn't hold back their emotions after beating the Vermont Lake Monsters in the final game of the Round 1.

"It's just been such a roller coaster," said Yankees starting pitcher Jake Abrams after the club's 6-4 win. "You play all season and then everything comes down to this one game. We know how easily we could have been on the other side of it."

The other side was a subdued Lake Monsters clubhouse, where players packed up their belongings and headed home for the year, with a somber mood in the air.

For the series, Abrams was named MVP, as he had a 0.56 ERA over 16 innings pitched. He added 11 strikeouts and picked up 2 wins.

The Staten Island Yankees will play against the Hudson Valley Renegades in the next round. Hudson Valley won their series against the Batavia Muckdogs 3 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
