Wood Smacks 3 Out of the Park Wednesday, March 5th , 2053 Three home runs usually equal a win, but not today at PNC Park. The Phoenix College Pirates beat the odds and also beat Johnny Wood and the Philadelphia College Rays, 13-11. The hot-hitting Wood had an historic day at the plate with three home runs, 4 hits in 7 at-bats, 9 RBIs and 4 runs scored, but no victory. "This game is special for me. It's an individual accomplishment," he said. "As a team we didn't have a good day, but the three homers make it better." Johnny Wood flied out in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Mike Thomas in the 6th, flied out in the 8th, hit a two-run home run off Art Henderson in the 10th and hit a solo-shot off Jeff Hiers in the 12th. For the year, Wood is batting .222 with 6 hits and 5 home runs. He has scored 10 times and driven in 13. |
