Schraeder Raps Gilbert College for 5 Hits
Thursday, March 20th , 2053
Salem College first baseman Steve Schraeder had a big day at Minute Maid Park against the Gilbert College Astros. The 20-year-old, who is not typically considered a big threat with the bat, went 5-for-6 and led to the 23-12 Swashbucklers triumph over Gilbert College.

"Hey, I'm as surprised as you guys are," Schraeder said in his postgame comments, smiling as he scolded the press corps for underestimating him. "Maybe I'm not so bad at the plate after all."

Steve Schraeder doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, walked in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Jim Smith in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and doubled in the 9th.

A look at his current stats shows Schraeder with a .222 average, 7 home runs, 15 RBIs and 15 runs scored. He has played in 16 games.
