Eagles Beat Apaches, 6-4
|
The Washington Eagles topped the El Paso Apaches by the score of 6-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to pinch hitter Steven Wheeler. Wheeler was 1 for 1, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Eagles on the day. Washington reliever Vicente Guerrero picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Carl Coffey shouldered the loss. The save went to Matt Hull, his 44th this season.
Washington used the timely hitting of Ken Schultz to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Eagles on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Wheeler told the Washington Observer. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
The win boosted Washington to 88-54.
