Mutiny Beat Shamrocks, 7-3
|
The Miami Mutiny beat the Boston Shamrocks, 7-3. Miami pitcher and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native Iván Fernández led the way. Fernández, now 4-3, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing no runs. With the win, Miami pushed its record to 25-19.
Miami used the timely hitting of Will Stoneman to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Mutiny ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Stoneman, "one at-bat at a time."
