Angels Edge Yankees, 4-3
|
Los Angeles picked up a win at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, toppling the New York Yankees, 4-3. Pitcher Frankie Montas was one of the reasons the Angels triumphed. Montas went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 7-4. The save was credited to Daniel Duarte, his 1st.
The Angels got a big at-bat from left fielder Jesus Nieves. For the game, Nieves went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 13th home run of the season gave Los Angeles a 4-0 lead.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Montas told the Los Angeles Chronicle. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
The Angels now have a record of 27-30.
