On Road, Pittsburgh Drops Carolina, 5-1
|
Pittsburgh starter Randy Poffo put a stranglehold on the Carolina offense. The right-hander had complete command of his curveball in leading the Pirates to a 5-1 win. Pittsburgh currently is in 7th place in the National League East Division at 41-46.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Pirates had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the fourth, when center fielder Jasson Dominguez hit a 2-run double. The double came off Cole Henry and made the score 4-1, Pirates. Dominguez went 1 for 3 with a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"I think we all put in a good day's work," said Poffo.
