Padres Solve Rockies, 6-5
|
San Diego designated hitter Juan Yepez picked up 3 ribbies while helping his team beat back the Colorado Rockies, 6-5. Nolan McLean came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 2-0. Brusdar Graterol was credited with the save, his 27th in 29 tries.
The Padres got a big at-bat from first baseman Jonathan Martin. For the game, Martin went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 28th home run of the season gave San Diego a 3-1 lead.
"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Martin told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
The victory gives the Padres a record of 49-43.
